The 1923 Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the US Constitution turns 90 years old in 2013.

It states:
Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is a federal guarantee that equal rights under law applies to all women and men wherever they live in the United States.

To amend the US Constitution requires the approval of 2/3 of the US House, 2/3 of the US Senate and 3/4 of the states (38 states).

The ERA was ratified by 2/3 of Congress in 1972 and 35 out of the required 38 states by 1977.
The Equal Rights Amendment must be ratified by three (3) more states before the amendment will be added to our Constitution.
